A Geological Window: 4 hour guided jeep tour in the Ramon crater.

After a short introductory view of the majestic Ramon Crater we will descend by jeep into it's depths via the Atzmaut Pass which winds it's way down the northern wall of this huge crater like formation. Our first stop will be in the bed of Wadi ramon where we will see the colourful clays exposed by errosion and learn how a Machtesh (crater) is formed and what makes it unique.

We will continue to the summit of Mount Gvanim, on a trail that only a jeep can go, from where we will be able to see the whole circumference of the Machtesh and learn alittle about the recent history of this region.

A short drive along the spine of Mount Gvanim will lead us to a dscent into Wadi Gvanim . We will stop in the shade of one of the many Accacia trees, that sprout from the parched earth, and explain what amazing tricks help life to florish in this harsh environment. If we are lucky we may also happen upon some of the wildlife that frequents the area.

Our next stop will be for a short walk around the Sahronim spring and the adjacent Nabatean way station that was abandoned nearly two millenia ago. A steep descent, in the Land Rover, via the Dkelim Pass, will bring us to the picturesque Wadi Ardon and it's famous geological formations.

The jeep tour finishes, where we began, in the town of Mitzpe Ramon.
