A jeep tour to the Ramon Crater & The Tzin Wilderness 

These two distinctly different areas are seperated by a very short distance and this tour combines, in effect, two "half day" tours.

The Ramon Crater (Machtesh) is perhaps one of the world's geological wonders and one of only seven such phenomena in the whole world - all of the world's seven Machteshim (plural for Machtesh) are to be found in this region, five in Israel's Negev and two in Egypt's Sinai.

Machtesh is often translated as "crater" but infact the Hebrew term "Machtesh" is the accurate term in English too. Basicaly a Machtesh is a mountain hollowed out by the process of erosion - we will happily tell you all about it as we take our jeep tour through it's unique and beautifull rugged interior seeing on our way the fantastic scenery and perhaps some of the wildlife not to mention the flora.

After seeing the Ramon Machtesh we will drive 35 kms to the Tzin Wilderness where you may be suprised to find such different scenery so close by. In ancient times the Israelites wandered here, in more recent times the Nabateans and Byzantines, and after them the likes of Lawrence of Arabia.......

We will enter into the Tzin valley, actualy a branch fault of the Great Syrian African Rift Valley, along the old pipe line road and then wind our way towards the Akev spring which is fed by pure fossil waters that have been locked beneath the earth's surface for thousands of years.

After a refreshing swim, optional, in the deep cool pool we will continue our tour. If we are lucky we may see some of the Griffon Vultures that roost in this area throughout the year. On our way we will stop to see, and hear, the incredible bore hole sunk into the valley floor decades ago. This you have to experience to believe....
